The Halcyon Systems Corporation, usually referred to as Halcyon, is a large-scale technological production and research corporation with a focus on prosthetic limbs, arms design, and ship-part production. Its stake in the technological market has made it a rival of the [[Weston-Yamada|Weston-Yamada Corporation]], as has its collaboration with the [[Socialist Progressive Peoples (SPP)|Socialist Progressive Peoples]].

== Early History ==
Halcyon began its life as Halcyon Advanced Technologies, a prosthetic R&D and Production company. It was formed by Joseph Moswue, a Batswana businessman and entrepreneur who orchestrated the mass-merger of several smaller tech companies; Joseph would be selected as CEO, and would expand outwards in a few years. The Corporation would steadily grow in size, and would eventually begin investing into the market of FTL drives, which were a new technology at the time. Halcyon would use these products to first become an international, and then an intergalactic corporation in a matter of years.

== Company Expansion ==
Eventually, Halcyon realized the potential in the production of other general spaceship parts, such as sensor modules, stealth systems, weaponry, and armour, among other products. Utilizing its solid monetary base established by its state-of-the-art prosthetics and FTL drives, it would slowly establish itself, producing ship parts utilized by other corporations and governments, including the SPP.

Ever quick on the movement of the market, Halcyon made moves towards an aggressive takeover of various electronic countermeasures corporations which had seen a sharp dip in stock price following the fallout of corruption charges by the [[Interstellar Commerce Bureau|ICB]]. Although analysts predicted a cheaper purchase due to incoming bankruptcy, Halcyon purchased the company to avoid potential acquisition by other rivals, such as Weston-Yamada.

== SPP Partnership ==
A few years of steady growth led to Halcyon establishing further outwards, and eventually began to consider forays into other markets and industries; when approached by the Socialist Progressive Peoples to develop and produce various new military technologies for their naval ships such as the Rompehielos class, Halcyon realized the potential for further investment into the SPP, and would begin to design weaponry intended for the nation.

In an attempt to test their technological capabilities, Halcyon’s weapons designers would work with software developers to create proprietary systems capable of sending the specs for manufacture, design, and software to permitted manufacturing plants and machines while also restricting access for unauthorized producers. Weapons made by this method would gain the "Type" designation, and see widespread use within the SPP's military. These investments would prove profitable and successful for both parties, resulting in the Socialist Progressive Peoples becoming a 5% investor in Halcyon, and gaining a seat on the Board of Shareholders.

== Current Day ==
Despite Halcyon’s working relationship with the SPP, the company still trades and does business with other organizations such as the [[United Nations|UN]] and [[Three Suns Empire|TSE]], although some technology remains firmly within the hands of the SPP. Furthermore, Halcyon has engaged in multiple joint ventures with other Corporations, such as the “SHIELD” series of helmets, built in collaboration with WEYA Medtech and Mining subsidiaries.

Recent rumors suggest that Halcyon may be working on developing a combat-based exoframe utilizing aspects of their prosthetic and ship-based technology, able to withstand not only conventional weaponry, but also hostile fauna such as [[Xenonids]]. Currently, these rumors are unproven.

While many other species remain enigmatic to the [[Marines|UNMC]] and even to the more eccentric corporations like Nanotrasen - still more have enlisted or otherwise joined up to work in positions with every bit of Equal Opportunity as their Human peers. While the path to joining the Corps is no doubt different for each individual, the most common is through subcontracting.

[[Nanotrasen (NT)|Nanotrasen]] workers in particular have been offered contracts to work under the UNMC as enlisted. In exchange, the UNMC offers assistance with [[Xenonids|alien]] threats. It has been many years since this integration, and relations have been very high between the traditionally human soldiers of the UNMC and their new brothers and sisters.

Although some ranks in the military require many years of experience, some of these species perceive their lives much slower than a human, and in most cases mature significantly faster than the average human. This means that species like the Moth are likely to get into higher ranking positions much faster than others, as they learn much more in the same amount of time. For example, one year is perceived as 8 for a moth. This doesn't seem to apply to longer-living species however, who seem to gain experience at about the same pace as a human, but live significantly longer.

Regardless of what age the species are in human measures of time, the [[United Nations]] have decided to mark official documents with their perceived age in relation to humans, based on many years of research on the species within the UN. The UNMC has since been providing officer and military personnel training tailored to each species, significantly improving the effectiveness of the UNMC as a whole.

This includes reduced pricing, stable inflow of resources and technology, and financial leverage against the UN. For this reason WeYa's headquarters are permanently located in the TSE, thus the corporation not needing to relocate during political changes;
* TSE's namesake operates on an established trinity: Britain, Japan, and the union itself as the "third sun" (this makes me think of a federalist (feudalist?) monarchy where the TSE assumes sovereignty over the other two nations). This opens up the possibility for conspiracy theories which speculate that the true "third sun" is actually the WeYa corporation, completing the trinity with a third, proper political actor that is on equal footing with the two nations.
