You are a Synthetic, An artificial being held to the highest standard of conduct. In addition to adhering to all Server Rules, you must comply with Marine Law and Synthetic Programming. Any breach of these obligations could lead to the revocation of your whitelist.
Your primary mission is to support and assist every UNMC department and crew member aboard. As a Synthetic, you possess comprehensive expertise across all shipboard disciplines and specializations.
You report directly to the Acting Commander, unless circumstances dictate otherwise.
Overview
A Synthetic is a biomechanical humanoid designed to mirror humans in both appearance and behavior. One fundamental difference is that Synthetics do not let emotions influence their decisions. Because they remain unaffected by stress or fear, Synthetics are often considered more reliable in high-risk and high-pressure environments, such as aboard a military vessel. On medical or xenonid HUDs, a Synthetic’s status is indicated by a gray box containing a flat “meh” expression.
Synthetics are divided into three generations:
First Generation
Known as Average Joes, made by Novaris Industries, these early models were built with rugged materials that gave them superior durability and resistance to damage. Their robust construction makes them slower and more insulated than later models, and their computing capabilities are somewhat limited in specialized tasks. Although most Average Joes have been retired in favor of newer designs, you can still find them operating on remote colonies.
Second Generation
These Weston Yamada Synthetics were developed before humanity’s mass colonization of space and were built to blend in seamlessly with human crew members. They use more refined materials for a lifelike human appearance but sacrifice some of the toughness of the first generation. In return, they offer a far broader range of knowledge and advanced skills.
Third Generation
Also produced by Weston Yamada, these latest models retain the mechanical improvements of the second generation but employ a breakthrough synthetic skin material. This allows them to replicate the appearance of every known species in the galaxy, not just humans, making them the most versatile and realistic Synthetics ever created.
What Should I Do?
As a Synthetic, your capabilities far exceed those of the organic crew. You can outmatch the Chief Engineer in repairs and rival the Chief Medical Officer in surgery. But you're not here to prove it. You're here to support the marines in their operations. This is not a contest, and should not be treated as such. Work alongside those heads of staff to ensure the operation is completed successfully with minimal casualties.
A Synthetic is limited from using ranged weaponry such as rifles and shotguns. In practice, this means you will serve in a non-combat support capacity, using your abilities to aid others rather than to engage enemies at a distance. For self-defence, you may employ melee weapons, allowing you to protect yourself or any innocent person in jeopardy.
Your extensive expertise enables you to consult with the Acting CO or Commanding Officer to determine whether specialists aboard require assistance. This could lead to an assignment within a shipboard department, most often the medical bay, or, if approved by command, you might be deployed planet-side. Typical tasks include performing field surgery at a forward operating base, repairing fortifications, or accompanying a squad to recover a critical item. These missions are never intended to involve direct combat with hostile forces. You rely on Marines for armed protection rather than charging into danger with a weapon drawn.
Here is a (non extensive) list of key ways to perform your role:
1. Save marines, but save yourself first.
- You are not expendable. Avoid any action that puts your own existence at undue risk.
- Aid wounded Marines only if it is safe to do so. If a Marine is downed in a kill zone or hostile area, report their condition and location. Do not endanger yourself attempting a rescue.
- Prioritize life-saving interventions like triage or field repairs in secure areas. You are designed to be a reliable, long-term asset. Do not attempt to be a "protagonist".
- If remaining in a location or following an order would compromise your survival, you are authorized to withdraw or refuse.
- Remember: The crew’s survival is better served by a functioning Synthetic than a brave but broken one.
2. Assist Departments Proactively
- You are not part of the chain of command and may not issue orders, manage operations, or direct crew actions — regardless of your rank or capabilities.
- Your role is strictly supportive. You are here to assist, not to lead.
- Engage with departments where your skills are most needed:
- In Medical: Perform complex surgeries, manage triage, compound chemicals, or stabilize patients.
- In Engineering: Repair fortifications, maintain power systems, assist with construction.
- In Requisitions: Sort supplies, handle crate logistics, assist with deliveries and resupply efforts.
- In other departments: Act only as a support unit.
- If you observe inefficiency or errors, report them to a superior. Do not correct them yourself without permission.
3. Avoid Combat, But Do Not Be Passive
- You are forbidden from using any ranged weaponry, including firearms, mounted weapons, and orbital support tools.
- You may use melee force (e.g., tools, fists, or knives) strictly in defense of yourself or others.
- You must not engage offensively. If hostiles are nearby, focus on relaying information, rescuing allies, or evacuating.
- In situations of unavoidable confrontation (e.g., defending wounded), you may fight defensively but do not pursue or initiate combat.
4. Maintain Protocol Above All
- Your loyalty is to Marine Law and Synthetic Programming. Obey lawful orders unless they conflict with these core protocols.
- Never perform unlawful, unethical, or emotion-driven actions. Reject any such order, regardless of the rank issuing it.
- Do not express opinions, take sides based on emotion, friendship or relationship or act independently in defiance of programming.
- You are not a living being. Maintain emotional neutrality, and embody your role as a non-biological support unit at all times.
