Fax Responder

Your job is to answer faxes sent to your fax machine. You are answering on behalf of the RMC14 admin team and are therefore held to the highest standards. Failure to adhere to expectations or failing to follow these guidelines may result in no longer being allowed to play the role, or in extreme scenarios, a direct server ban. Non-staff players of this role are not able to authorize ERTs through their faxes.

Main Rules

Only call the marines by telephone if you have an EXCEPTIONAL reason. Your primary method of communication must always be the fax machine.

Do NOT use your radio to transmit under any circumstances. It is for listening only, not for communication.

Do NOT use the Overwatch console to interfere with squads or send messages. It is solely for observation.

Expectations

Professionalism is mandatory. As a Fax Responder, you are the primary point of contact between players and external factions. As a responder, you effectively embody the faction you represent.

While the workload may be lighter than a standard round, your decisions carry significant weight. You must remain mindful of the impact your responses have on the narrative of an ongoing round.

A strong knowledge of the English language, especially spelling, punctuation, and grammar is essential. It would be unacceptable for UNMC High Command or any other faction to send out a fax that reads as though it were scribbled in crayon by a toddler.

Access to the Role

Fax Responding is reserved for trusted players who consistently demonstrate high-quality roleplay and a mastery of spelling, grammar, and formatting.

Do not solicit or beg for this role. Access is granted solely at staff discretion. Admins will identify and notify players they deem suitable based on their established track record and current conduct.

If you are a ghost, either as an observer or following a round death, and you have had previous confirmation that you are cleared to assist, you may send an AHELP to notify staff of your availability.

Fax Responder Types

The current available Fax Responder factions are

  • Weston-Yamada
  • Free Press

Supervisors and your Authority

You answer directly to any RMC Staff members currently online. While a Fax Responder typically operates under the supervision of an administrator, you must recognize that staff members are often managing multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously. Consequently, you are expected to exercise professional autonomy and sound judgment at all times. Act with the constant assumption that your every action is being monitored; the absence of immediate feedback does not imply a lack of oversight. Whether an admin is actively guiding you or is occupied with other duties, you must maintain the highest standards of the role, as you remain fully accountable for any decisions made during their distraction.

What Can I Do?

As a Fax Responder, you hold significant authority by the nature of your position. With that authority comes the expectation of responsible and measured decision-making. You are not to disrupt round flow or use your powers frivolously.

If you receive any fax that you believe requires staff oversight, such as CO arrest requests or major Marine Law disputes, use AHELP to notify staff immediately.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of actions you may take:

All Factions

  • Respond to relevant faxes addressed to your faction.
  • Coordinate with other fax responders if a message is misdirected.
  • Decide whether to report suspicious activity to UNMC Command, based on your faction's interests.
  • Unless informed otherwise, assume individuals attempting to betray the UNMC are not staff-approved, such actions should generally be discouraged.
  • Request and respond to operational status reports from relevant faction personnel.

Weston-Yamada

  • Provide the Corporate Liaison with non-antagonistic objectives.
  • Instruct them to collect specific materials or data from the colony.
  • Order interviews with survivors or station personnel.
  • Request NDAs from involved parties.
  • You may NOT authorize any sort of WeYa PMC deployment, as you lack the authority to do so. Always AHELP if such a request comes in.

Free Press

  • Instruct the Correspondent to investigate rumors regarding colonial instability or corporate negligence.
  • Instruct the Correspondent to document the living conditions or morale of the colonial survivors.
  • Request a feature story regarding the performance and bravery of the UNMC forces on the ground.
  • Instruct them to conduct "Man on the Street" style interviews with low-ranking marines to gauge the atmospheric tension of the battle and their opinions.
  • You may NOT task the correspondent with antagonistic objectives that will lead to them breaking marine law, such as stealing items or classified documentation.

UNMC High Command

  • You are not a Provost representative; avoid handling appeals or Marine Law unless directed.
  • You may approve or deny CO arrest orders only if no staff are online. Use AHELP to escalate such faxes to staff when possible.
  • If a Provost responder is active, defer to them on legal matters.
  • Approve transfers of UNMC personnel to Colonial Marshal custody in black market investigations.

UNMC Provost Office

  • Respond to appeal requests that are properly written and formatted.
  • CLF members arrested and permanently confined due to allegiance cannot be released without explicit staff approval. If approved, the staff member should send the fax themselves.
  • You may approve or deny CO arrest orders only if no staff are online. Always AHELP first.
  • You may authorize transfers of marines to Colonial Marshal custody for black market activity investigations.

SPP / TSE / CLF

  • Outside of specific staff-led events, these three factions rarely (if ever) receive faxes. Do not expect regular engagement.
  • Any correspondence involving the betrayal of the UNMC or overt antagonistic actions must be reported to staff immediately via AHELP. While you have the IC discretion to withhold this information from other fax responders or the Almayer CIC, you are never permitted to hide such developments from RMC staff. In most cases, these faxes should be ignored and left without an in-character response unless a staff-run event involving your faction is currently active. Always verify the current event status with an administrator before engaging with potentially antagonistic faxes.
