You are expected to maintain professionalism at all times. This role is not to be taken lightly. While you may find yourself with fewer tasks than during a typical round, your actions and decisions can have significant consequences, and you must remain mindful of that.

A strong knowledge of the English language, especially spelling, punctuation, and grammar is essential. It would be unacceptable for UNMC High Command or any other faction to send out a fax that reads as though it were scribbled in crayon by a toddler.
Fax Responding is reserved for trusted players who consistently demonstrate high-quality roleplay and a mastery of spelling, grammar, and formatting.

The Fax Responder role is reserved for trusted players who have demonstrated consistent, high-quality roleplay and a strong command of spelling, grammar, and formatting in their faxes.
* As a ghost either as an observer or following a round death, you may send an '''AHELP''' with a request to be a fax responder. In the same message, also include that you have read this entire guidelines page, and agree to the terms and rules. Failure to follow the guidelines of this page will result in permanent denial.
* Please do not send multiple requests in the same round, or across several following rounds to avoid spamming our relays and causing annoyance. Assume that if a request does not receive a response within 10 minutes, that it is declined for this round.
* If you have a note specifying you are not eligible for fax responder, please do not request it any further. These decisions can only be appealed through the standard method.

<span style="color:red">'''<u>Do not beg for access to this role.</u>'''</span> Admins will reply to you if you are approved and eligible to play as a Fax Responder.

If you’ve been approved, you may request access to the role by asking an admin through AHELP while you are a ghost. Either after observing or after dying during a round.
* This applies if you have had previous confirmation that you are cleared to assist, which will be in your admin notes.

This role is a privilege earned through professionalism, maturity, and a solid understanding of in-game mechanics and procedures. It is not something that can be demanded or begged for.
* As a ghost, either as an observer or following a round death,  you may send an '''AHELP''' to notify staff of your availability.

Fax Responders cannot make decisions that would drastically alter the round's flow, such as activating ERTs or overriding staff decisions without their input. Always use AHELP if you're unsure whether your action requires staff involvement.

Fax Responder

Your job is to answer faxes sent to your fax machine. You are answering on behalf of the RMC14 admin team and are therefore held to the highest standards. Failure to adhere to expectations or failing to follow these guidelines may result in no longer being allowed to play the role, or in extreme scenarios, a direct server ban. Non-staff players of this role are not able to authorize ERTs through their faxes.

Rules and Expectations

Do not:

  • Call or answer calls by telephone unless you have an EXCEPTIONAL reason. Your primary method of communication must always be the fax machine.
  • Use your radio to transmit under any circumstances. It is for listening only, not for communication.
  • Use the Overwatch console to interfere with squads or send messages. It is solely for observation.
  • Disrupt round flow or use your powers frivolously.
  • Authorize any sort of ERT deployment, as you lack the authority to do so. Always AHELP if such a request comes in.

Ensure:

  • If you receive any fax that you believe requires staff oversight, such as CO arrest requests or major Marine Law disputes, use AHELP to notify staff immediately.
  • All faxes have a professional quality, including spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • You remain mindful of the impact your responses have on the narrative of an ongoing round.
  • You effectively embody the faction you represent.
  • You exercise professional autonomy and sound judgment at all times.

Access to the Role

Do not beg for this role please. Access is granted solely at staff discretion. Admins will approve of players they deem suitable based on their established track record and current conduct.

Fax Responding is reserved for trusted players who consistently demonstrate high-quality roleplay and a mastery of spelling, grammar, and formatting.

New to the role

  • As a ghost either as an observer or following a round death, you may send an AHELP with a request to be a fax responder. In the same message, also include that you have read this entire guidelines page, and agree to the terms and rules. Failure to follow the guidelines of this page will result in permanent denial.
  • Please do not send multiple requests in the same round, or across several following rounds to avoid spamming our relays and causing annoyance. Assume that if a request does not receive a response within 10 minutes, that it is declined for this round.
  • If you have a note specifying you are not eligible for fax responder, please do not request it any further. These decisions can only be appealed through the standard method.

Already played with approved record

  • This applies if you have had previous confirmation that you are cleared to assist, which will be in your admin notes.
  • As a ghost, either as an observer or following a round death, you may send an AHELP to notify staff of your availability.

What Can I Do?

As a Fax Responder, you hold significant authority by the nature of your position. With that authority comes the expectation of responsible and measured decision-making.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of actions you may take:

General Guidelines

  • Respond to relevant faxes addressed to your faction.
  • Coordinate with other fax responders if a message is misdirected.
  • Decide whether to report suspicious activity to UNMC Command, based on your faction's interests.
  • Unless informed otherwise, assume individuals attempting to betray the UNMC are not staff-approved, such actions should generally be discouraged.
  • Request and respond to operational status reports from relevant faction personnel.

Available Faxes

Weston-Yamada

  • Provide the Corporate Liaison with non-antagonistic objectives.
  • Instruct them to collect specific materials or data from the colony. (Ensure they are not antagonistic to the UNMC by doing so, they require permission from research staff.)
  • Order interviews with survivors or station personnel.
  • Request NDAs from involved parties.
  • You may NOT authorize any sort of WeYa PMC deployment, as you lack the authority to do so. Always AHELP if such a request comes in.

Free Press

  • Instruct the Correspondent to investigate rumors regarding colonial instability or corporate negligence.
  • Instruct the Correspondent to document the living conditions or morale of the colonial survivors.
  • Request a feature story regarding the performance and bravery of the UNMC forces on the ground.
  • Instruct them to conduct "Man on the Street" style interviews with low-ranking marines to gauge the atmospheric tension of the battle and their opinions.
  • You may NOT task the correspondent with antagonistic objectives that will lead to them breaking marine law, such as stealing items or classified documentation.

They will typically be held "until the end of the operation", as in most cases you won't be sending anyone to collect them.
  • You may approve or deny CO arrest orders only if no staff are online. Always AHELP first.
  • You may authorize transfers of marines to Colonial Marshal custody for black market activity investigations.

SPP / TSE / CLF

  • Any correspondence involving the betrayal of the UNMC or overt antagonistic actions must be reported to staff immediately via AHELP. While you have the IC discretion to withhold this information from other fax responders or the Almayer CIC, you are never permitted to hide such developments from RMC staff. In most cases, these faxes should be ignored and left without an in-character response unless a staff-run event involving your faction is currently active. Always verify the current event status with an admin before engaging with potentially antagonistic faxes.
