CMB Deputies are the primary law-enforcement officers for United Nations colonies. Equipped with shotguns, revolvers, and armored jackets, these Deputies are often the first line of defence against Colony Liberation Front activity. Oftentimes, their tasks are more mundane: investigating murders, recovering stolen property, cracking down on smuggling, and preventing many other crimes which can often occur on the frontier.

Overview
The Colony Liberation Front, also known as the Free Colonists, is a broad categorical grouping of different cells and groups, formed from a result of growing discontent within the colonies of the Frontier. Originally beginning as peaceful protests, the CLF has transformed into thousands of armed cells and groups, each with their own ideologies and vision of an independent frontier.

CMB Marshals are the heads of a CMB Precinct within a colony. Highly skilled, they're equipped with resilient armor and a shotgun, and have overseen dozens of investigations, arrests, and dangerous situations requiring that the law be upheld. These Marshals are very familiar with commanding around subordinates, and are expected to represent the highest standard of professionalism and ability which all CMB Deputies should strive to meet. Due to their skill, they typically aren't involved in minor crimes: Instead, they take the forefront on investigations into rebel activity, breaking up criminal gangs, and mass-murders, among other crimes.
History & Ideology
The first Colony Liberation Front group would be considered the government of Orthis. Covertly supported by the Socialist Progressive Peoples, they sought to overthrow the United Nations' grasp on the colony, and transfer control to the SPP. The plot failed, but it would serve as the first major revolution among the stars. Operation Justice would also spark some concern among the colonies, as images of widespread destruction and rumors of war-crimes by senior officers of the UNMC spread amongst the frontier. Kharis, however, would be the spark igniting the fires of the CLF. The civilian casualties attributed to the event led many to lose faith in the superpowers. Many would-be Liberation Front guerillas believed that, if their home on the Frontier were to thrive, it would need to be torn away from the distant nations, by force.

* Survive the Xenonid outbreak.
Broadly, the CLF believes that the United Nations, Three Suns Empire, and/or Socialist Progressive Peoples do not represent their interests and needs, and that they deserve the right to self-determination. Many likewise share a discontent with large Corporations and the influence they hold over their homes. Recruitment to a Colony Liberation Front cell requires only belief and dedication to the cause, meaning that many groups are militias formed from colonial roughnecks, former soldiers, farmers, and other citizens of the Frontier. However, each cell tends to develop their own ideology and ideals. Some may seek to develop a democratic institution, while others fight for charismatic autocrats seeking to establish their own petty kingdoms.

Organization
As the Colony Liberation Front is less of an organization as opposed to a broad grouping of distinct factions and cadres, the internal structure is often very disorganized. Cells follow the orders of a Commander, who dictate the ideology and tactics used by the cell. Occasionally, these groups will split due to internal factionalism and rivalries, further muddying the waters of what is considered the CLF.

<div style="text-align:center; margin-top:-10px;">
Every cell must have resources, and the methods of acquiring their weaponry and equipment varies. Many arm themselves with civilian-grade equipment, while others loot from military surplus depots. Cells aligned with the Socialist Progressive Peoples will covertly receive equipment from dead-drops and transportation networks, and rarely may be funded by wealthy frontier millionaires seeking to grow their own powerbase by pushing out the larger governments and corporations.
Colony Marshal Bureau Riot Officer
</div>
Ranks: Officer/Senior Officer

CMB Riot Officers are officers trained in handling large-scale riots and social instability. Equipped with armour and helmets with face-protection, they're often found on colonies which have seen widespread rioting, looting, and mass-panic, as well as prison facilities in case the inmates try to break out. These Riot Officers are often Deputies who have been selected for their ability to remain calm under tense situations, as well as an ability to disengage and avoid provocation.
Typically, cells are small groups, consisting of a dozen or more colonists, representing and fighting for the colony of origin. A few larger cells exist, representing groups which seek to secure independence for areas larger than a local colony or star-system. Although their size provides more sway and legitimacy to discontented colonists, they face greater attention from forces like the CMB or UNMC, making their position precarious. Occasionally, different cells may cooperate, but these alliances are typically short-lived.

United Nations
Due to the impact of Operation Justice and The Fires of Kharis, the United Nations has faced a high degree of activity from CLF cells. Generally, most remain highly hostile to the UN. Although the UN remains the focal point for many CLF cells, there’s plenty of insurgent groups within the Three Suns Empire. ILRC Peacekeepers are neutral support forces deployed to conflict zones to stabilize colonies, observe ceasefires, and protect civilian populations. They are not a standing army and do not participate in wars or territorial defense. Their mandate strictly limits the use of force to self defense or the immediate protection of civilians. Typically equipped with light armour, many Peacekeepers join out of a sense of duty to protect the civilians present in the sector.
Socialist Progressive Peoples
The Socialist Progressive Peoples could, on paper, be argued to have the most positive relationship with CLF rebels. As a means of destabilizing the UN and TSE, the SPP has a tendency to support many insurgencies with similar ideological beliefs, or who are willing to cooperate with them. However, many cells either distrust the SPP, or are actively rebelling against them within their borders due to a lack of free speech and democratic representation.
Peacekeepers operate under political and legal constraints, needing consent of the colony's host and adherence to the Stellar Accords. As a result, their deployments are often delayed. While officially neutral, their operations are largely funded by the United Nations and the Three Suns Empire, with the Socialist Progressive Peoples (SPP) providing minimal resources for the sole purpose of protecting their own.

Interstellar Life Rights Observers (ILRO) are field agents deployed by the ILRC to monitor combat zones and conflict areas where war crimes or humanitarian abuses are suspected, and are also notified on first contact with new interstellar life. Operating under neutrality agreements, these observers document violations, interview witnesses, and compile reports on atrocities committed by governments, corporations, or otherwise. Its partly a PR stunt however, their presence serves as a deterrent against blatant abuses, and their findings are often used to pressure violators through media exposure or diplomatic channels. However, ILRO teams frequently face hostility from both sides of a conflict and are criticized for being ineffective in preventing atrocities in lawless regions.

Their duties typically consist of investigating anomalies in cargo manifests and financial records, searching ships for contraband, and making sure that work-spaces meet interstellar standards set by the ICB. Typically holding anti-corporate stances, due to the TSE’s close relationship with corporate entities such as Weston-Yamada, the diversity of the CLF remains a fact, ranging from SPP-Supported socialist cells, to radical monarchists attempting to restore an autocratic system of royalty.
