Force Reconnaissance

Force Reconnaissance is a specialized branch within the United Nations Marine Corps that provides deep-space reconnaissance, planetary surveillance, and limited-scale raids in support of a space unit, other marine forces, or joint operations. FORECON teams operate ahead of main combat elements, gathering intelligence and conducting high-risk insertion missions.

Role and Capabilities

FORECON is tasked with conducting strategic and operational reconnaissance in high-risk environments, often operating independently or in coordination with larger Marine forces. Although a conventional Marine force, FORECON shares many tactics, techniques, procedures, and equipment with special operations units. While not officially designated as a special operations force, they operate in a similar capacity.

Command and Organization

During large-scale operations, Force Reconnaissance units report directly to the UNMC High Command, and provide deep reconnaissance and direct action support.

UNS Hanyut

Pan-Pan. This is the commanding officer of the UNS Hanyut, UNMC FORECON. We are currently grounded on planet LV-522 in the immediate area of Chance's Claim. We are unable to contact the Hanyut and our dropships are unable to take off at this time. We are requesting assistance from any nearby vessels; this broadcast is set to repeat every 24 hours.

The only known in-game Force Reconnaissance unit in the United Nations Marine Corps operates from the UNS Hanyut, a Light Assault Transport. This team was deployed to investigate a distress call from the colony, but an unknown incident left the ground troops stranded planetside, unable to contact the Hanyut orbiting above. Cut off and under attack by a hostile alien force, their situation is grim.

Later, a second signal reaches the UNS Almayer. The marines aboard this vessel now face a choice: mount a rescue for the isolated FORECON unit and their commanding officer, while confronting the same deadly threat that severed their lifeline.
