Overview
A Synthetic is a biomechanical humanoid designed to mirror humans in both appearance and behavior. One fundamental difference is that Synthetics do not let emotions influence their decisions. Because they remain unaffected by stress or fear, Synthetics are often considered more reliable in high-risk and high-pressure environments, such as aboard a military vessel. On medical or xeno HUDs, a Synthetic’s status is indicated by a gray box containing a flat “meh” expression.
Synthetics are divided into three generations:
First Generation
Known as Average Joes, these early models were built with rugged materials that gave them superior durability and resistance to damage. Their robust construction makes them slower and more insulated than later models, and their computing capabilities are somewhat limited in specialized tasks. Although most Average Joes have been retired in favor of newer designs, you can still find them operating on remote colonies.
Second Generation
These Weston Yamada Synthetics were developed before humanity’s mass colonization of space and were built to blend in seamlessly with human crew members. They use more refined materials for a lifelike human appearance but sacrifice some of the toughness of the first generation. In return, they offer a far broader range of knowledge and advanced skills.
Third Generation
Also produced by Weston Yamada, these latest models retain the mechanical improvements of the second generation but employ a breakthrough synthetic skin material. This allows them to replicate the appearance of every known species in the galaxy, not just humans, making them the most versatile and realistic Synthetics ever created.
A Synthetic is limited from using ranged weaponry such as rifles and shotguns. In practice, this means you will serve in a non-combat support capacity, using your abilities to aid others rather than to engage enemies at a distance. For self-defence, you may employ melee weapons, allowing you to protect yourself or any innocent person in jeopardy.
