Lore WIP
AEGIS Armaments (or Adaptive Engagement & Guidance Integrated Systems.) is a significant arms manufacturing corporation, and is the primary weapons contractor for the United Nations Marine Corp. AEGIS Armaments is responsible not only for the manufacture of traditional firearms (Such as the M54C Line of rifles or the renowned 1984 Pistol ) but also support systems such as mortars, anti-air measures, and equipment such as body armor, among a wide range of other military-hardware related products.
History
AEGIS Armaments was initially incorporated within the United Nations by a collection of wealthy business magnates, military veterans, and highly-skilled engineers, making their name by producing a variety of different firearms and armor for the civilian market. AEGIS would slowly establish their brand, creating an image of reliability and competence all while high-ranking executives would use their connections to network with various UN Officials, lobbying with more militaristic politicians to gain an advantage over rival competitors in terms of contracts. Eventually, the United Nations would select the M1984 as the standard-issue sidearm of the UNMC, which still sees use to this day.
Using their successful acquisition of the sidearm contract, AEGIS would follow up by developing new assault rifles, sub-machine guns, shotguns, and designated marksman rifles, patenting them and providing them for the UNMC. As the company became more financially stable, their researchers began experimenting with more theoretical and bizarre weaponry & gear, developing and testing them to see what stuck and what didn’t. Although many failed prototypes would be discarded, equipment deemed to have potential value were branded with the “XM” designation, and given in limited capacities to UNMC forces for testing.
Eventually, through tactful acquisition of competitors, substantial lobbying, and a reputation for high-quality products, AEGIS would become the foremost weapons supplier for the UNMC by the time of The Orthis War. Their firearms would become widely associated with the UNMC, and AEGIS would see widespread success.
However, recent developments have seen AEGIS’ dominance of the UNMC’s military-industrial complex falter. The patents for the M54C and M63 expired some time ago, with Weston-Yamada producing variations of the aforementioned firearms for internal security use; WEYA has also contested AEGIS in various UNMC contracts, securing the M77 as a mainstay sidearm, while also capturing shipbuilding and ship weapons contracts. Another rivalry has arisen between Halcyon and AEGIS, as many within the company’s hierarchy hold connections to the United Nations, and view Halcyon’s arms deals with the Socialist Progressive Peoples to be a substantial threat to their operations and the security of the UN. Despite these issues, AEGIS still remains the primary corporate sponsor of the United Nations Marine Corp, and will likely remain as such for years to come.
Current Operations
As it stands, AEGIS has continued to invest in bettering their product catalog, and expanding into new areas of technology to counter their corporate rivals. Recent insider leaks have indicated that AEGIS has begun work on developing an experimental phoron-based orbital warhead orders of magnitude stronger than the preexisting shells known as the “AEG-328-KRA”, or “KRAKEN, combining both the explosive power of an HE Shell and the burning effect of an Incendiary shell.
AEGIS’ armor also remains a popular product of theirs, being present not only within the UNMC, but also seeing adoption within the Colony Marshal Bureau as riot-armor variants. The company has continued to sell gun attachments, as well as weapons and ammunition for various dropship models.
Although AEGIS primarily focuses on military hardware, they’ve also seen success within the office industry, with their photocopiers and fountain pens remaining popular choices for any office in need of equipment.
Despite the recent difficulties AEGIS has faced, they remain a military-industrial powerhouse in the UN through their preexisting contracts, joint-research projects, in-house PMC operations, and the widespread respect for their firearms.
Departments
As a large corporation, AEGIS Armaments has multiple different Departments which handle the day-to-day operations of the company, making sure everything works smoothly and efficiently to ensure profit, success, and reliability.
Operations Department
Forming the backbone of AEGIS’ Paramilitary Arm, the Operations Department oversees the operations of AEGIS Operators, or AO, which serves as a reliable alternative to UNMC's more slow and bureaucratic nature, while avoiding the unreliability and lack of funding inherent to Freelance mercenary groups.
AO is split into two groups; Primary Operations, the standard troops that make up the Operations Department, and Specialist Operations, a more secretive and covert ops group. As the name suggests, AO focuses less on motorized vehicles and firepower, preferring flexibility and enhancing the infantry they bring to bear. Although less in number compared to formal militaries like the UNMC or Royal Crown Marines, they compensate through a higher average level of skill, training, and experience. AO also benefits from AEGIS’ preexisting logistical systems, as well as having access to state-of-the-art prototypes and equipment for internal testing.
Although they fall under a similar command structure to the UNMC, and many AO soldiers originate from the Marine Corp, AO is an independent force loyal to AEGIS; that doesn’t mean they aren’t willing to give their close allies a hand when they’re in need, though.
AOPO
AEGIS Operators Primary Operations, or AOPO, are the poster-boys of the Operations Department. Often originating from military veterans, highly-skilled freelancers scouted for their talent, or members of another PMC Company who’ve decided to jump ship, they’re tasked with protecting AEGIS installations, completing contracts they’ve been hired to perform, and occasionally aiding the UNMC when in need. PO Soldiers work in smaller detachments, but are highly mobile, allowing them to traverse hostile terrain quickly, scout ahead of larger forces, skirmish with rival corporate groups, such as Weston-Yamada PMCs, and provide on-demand security at a price. As the Colony Liberation Front works to overthrow the UN’s military support structure, PO has become a vital force for protecting AEGIS interests at home or abroad.
AOSO
AEGIS Enhanced Infantry Specialist Operations, or AOSO, are the more subtle, covert, and secretive cousin of AOPO, used when AEGIS would prefer to keep things quiet. Since SO operates in a similar capacity to the UNMC’s MARSOC, admittance is a tough billet, with only the most skilled Recon, Freelancer Mercenaries, or AOPO operatives being accepted to become a member of Specialist Ops. Their existence is somewhat of an open secret, with the truth being distorted through rumor and the fog of war.
AOSO’s operations are similar to AOPO, but more specialized in reconnaissance, intel-gathering, and independent operations. While they work to protect AEGIS’ interests by quelling CLF cells before they become a threat to the company and sabotaging and engaging in corporate warfare with arms-dealing rivals like WEYA and Halcyon, SO is occasionally hired by the UNMC to assist in high-value operations which require a specialist’s touch. Under these circumstances, they usually sabotage enemy infrastructure, designating targets for CAS or Orbital Bombardment, engaging in high-stakes reconnaissance, and securing valuable personnel or landing zones.
R&D Department
The R&D Department of AEGIS Armaments are responsible for designing, testing, and iterating on new weaponry, ammunition, attachments, and gear for sale. The R&D Department prides itself on its high-quality equipment renowned for power and precision. Although this confidence is a benefit to ensure that each product meets the expectations placed in AEGIS, it can occasionally lead to issues when eager scientists explain in press releases the devastating impacts their weapons have had, or when a research team realizes halfway though a project that it would technically break the Stellar Accords if ever deployed. Despite that, the R&D Department is the pride and joy of AEGIS Armaments, regularly producing experimental gear with a fantastic potential for greatness.
