Introduction
As a Nurse, you’re there to provide medical support and make sure no patient is left untreated. You’ll assist with the upkeep of medbay, assist with treatment, and learn the basics of medicine and chemistry if you're not already familiar. Your goal is to be a reliable support for the medical team, jumping in where needed and lending a hand to anyone who needs it.
Duties
You are basically a level above a Hospital Corpsman (depending on playtime). You’ve got a bit more access and responsibility, but you’re still not on the same level as a doctor. Most of the time, you’ll be double checking patients that come in, figuring out who needs help first, and getting Marines ready for more advanced treatment such as surgery. You can do things such as:
- Perform Chemistry duties.
- Provide First Aid.
- Transfer Blood.
- Assign Holo Tags.
- Move patients from the Dropships to * Medbay.
- Move bodies to the Morgue.
- And Assist Doctors wherever needed.
Getting Started
As soon are you wake up from cryo, or when you late join during a round, you should head down to medbay. If you don't know where you're going you can always ask directions in radio by doing "; message" or ":m message" for medical radio in chat. Once you found your way to medbay head over to the medical preparation area and vend whatever is highlighted as green/orange as those are essentially what you need as a nurse.
Make sure you have the following:
- Health analyzer
- Medical hud
- Lifesaver belt or similar
- Defibrillator
- Surgical line
- Synth graft
- Stacks of brute kit and burn kits.
Useful for the long run:
- Canister pouch (preferably containing GC)
Optional:
- Roller beds
- Stasis bags
- Body bags
Chemistry
When working with chems you should always prioritize making basic meds that heals both brute and burn as those are generally what you'll be treating throughout the round. For a list of chemical recipes refer to Guide to Chemistry.
Chemist often hands out medicine to marines in a form of pills. When labeling pills you should always name them to it's chemical name and OD threshold. An example would be labeling meralyne pills with 15u OD as "(Mera 15u OD)". This is to make it easier to identify and avoid accidentally overdosing the marines due to the lack of information.
